ported vs sealed box difference

ok so i have the subs in my sig and i took out the jl's. so there is now two 6 inch holes on the side of the box. the two twelve's now distort like hell when i barely put any power to them or turn it up too loud. i know they are trashy but they never sounded that bad with the holes plugged with the jl's. i was wondering if they distorted becuase of the the holes in the box? i think it is. thanks guys.

Re: ported vs sealed box difference

the ESA subs require a sealed enclosure. I used to sell them. they arent bad speakers for the buck.non the less seal off the holes and you will see them preform much much better.

Re: ported vs sealed box difference

yea, the holes are'nt anatomically correct or whatever (i know thats not the word but i couldnt think of the word...so whatever), so they arnt set to ported box standards, they have to be a certain diamater and stuff to make them sound right.

Re: ported vs sealed box difference

you will still have to cover those holes cause they willdistort any sub you put in there cause the box is not tuned correctly...

Re: ported vs sealed box difference

have you heard of the SPL ML12W? they handle 1,200w with dual 4 ohm voice coils..can be broke down to 2 ohms and sound awsome in a vented enclosure...
