Exclamation 1988 Toyota Celica Engine Question

I just bought a 88 Celica GT-S from a friend of mine for nearly next to nothing. And it seems that it has a engien problem. The engine tends to knock extreamly bad. He told me the engien was pretty much dead but for sum reason i dont think it is. I drove it home with the engin problem and then when i got it home , and i then put it on sum ramps and drained the oil. What i didn't get was the oil was cold, it wasn't warm even since i drove it for like 5moin prior and didn't even take the time to let it cool down just left it running and drove it on some ramps. So what me and a friend r thinking is that , the oil pump is done, and possibly there isn't any oil getting to the upper part of the engine.

If you understand what im saying please let me know what u think or maybe you have other information on what it could b.

Also what does a used Gt-S engine usually run or possibly a re build kit?

Thanks

Re: 1988 Toyota Celica Engine Question

that is weird, was it realy cold or luke warm? how far did you drive

if it was cold htat probably means there is no oil (or little) circualting....do you have an oiul pressure guage? thats the first thing i would get and hook it up to see if your getting any rpessure

i would prime the oil pump first then try and start the car, if you dont see at LEAST 10psi on startup immiditaly turn it off...that could be why its clanking so much

(you should see 10psi on cranking) 20 when first started and 30+on idel

Re: 1988 Toyota Celica Engine Question

We'll i would say mayb a block - 2 blocks and it was just cold, and prior to that it was running for a few min so i figued that it should have been alittle warm if not hot. And i dont know for sure if it has a oil pressure gauge but if it does i will mk sure to watch that . And, if it is just the oil pump that would b nice because then it would save me alot of money =).
