Re: how do i swap olds 3.1 into 96 grand am
Welcome. Yes, it can be done as both cars are essentially the same once you remove the exterior sheet metal. You would have to swap the engine cradle, motor mounts, engine harness, dash harness, ecm, air bag modules and sensors, transmission I believe, and possibly the body harness, the gauge cluster, not sure what else. It's alot of work, but it is doable, especially since you have a complete donor car. Good luck.

Re: how do i swap olds 3.1 into 96 grand am
no its not that hard !
if thier both 3.1's the swap isnt that bad. Mostly sensors that might not plug on to the old, then you need to fit one from the GA so the harness will connect. I had a 93' GA with a 3.3, and swapped it out for a Cutlass Ciera 3.3 and I changed very little. Just kept the GA coils, cps, and a couple other things. Bolted right up. But I'm not 100% the 3.1s from pontiac to olds are a match, but I'll try and find out.
