Question Please Help... Engine Problems with 94 Civic EX

I was going down the road and my car lost power... blew out a shitload of white smoke then stalled out... I let it cool down and checked all my fluids... All was good. I tried to crank it but the only way to keep it cranked is to keep mashing the gas pedal and turning the engine over.... then when it gets cranked... it's running shitty... What could be the problem????

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me.

Question Re: Please Help... Engine Problems with 94 Civic EX

Well its not my head gasket b/c i just replaced it... Still wont run... Could it be something like the timing belt, fuel pump, or not getting fire???

Doesn't white smoke mean water (anti-freeze) in the engine? Just because you replaced it doesn't mean it was done correctly or possibly had a bad part from the beginning.

Re: Please Help... Engine Problems with 94 Civic EX

Well I got it running today... Still blowing out white smoke that smells like gas and running real rough like its out of time or a cylinder is out... I changed my plugs, wires, dis. cap and rotar but still no luck... I took it to the shop and they said my fuel pump isnt working properly... Maybe thats why i have to pump the gas to keep it running??? That may be why the white smoke smells like gas... Pumping the gas to keep it running is flooding the engine out????

Re: Please Help... Engine Problems with 94 Civic EX

Is your car carbureted? Doubt it. The fuel pump motor operates at the same speed, regardless of how many times you pump the gas.

Like I said before, white smoke = water. That smell is unburned gas. Probably blown head gasket and a bad cylinder.

How is that timing belt? Missing any teeth?

Lol. Yeah. I'm gonna stick with the blown gasket (or it could be your head alltogether). Did you replace the head gasket yourself or did you take it to a mechanic? If you replaced it, did you replace the head bolts as well. If you tried to torque stretched bolts then it may not have been a good seal. Depends on how many miles are on the bolts.

EDIT: If your replaced it all yourself, then what bolt pattern did you use to bolt the head back on. If you don't unbolt it right or bolt it down right you can warp the head.

Re: Please Help... Engine Problems with 94 Civic EX

um let's think white smoke that smells like gas... headgasket, and if you changed it your self you just took the bolts off put the gasket on then put the bolts back on, well don't blame you i did the same thing a few years ago on my old accord. the bolts need to come off and put back on in a pattern.

it's alright though just get a haynes and a new gasket new headbolts and do it again.

i also recommend arp bolts, i use them for EVERYTHING on my crx

Re: Please Help... Engine Problems with 94 Civic EX

your oil light is on because the pressure is to low because the coolant is diluting it.

Link to thread about Helms manuals.
That should help a bit. Let me know if you need the bolt pattern.
