Hi all, nice site here. I'm just a virgin with this Geo Tracker forum. I have a few questions about the A/C in my Tracker. I have a 1991 Geo Tracker 1.6 4x4. I just bought it and the motor was recently replaced with one with 60,000 miles. Runs great. I noticed the A/C compressor didn't have a belt on it and I wanted to get the A/C going. Put a belt on, charged it up and while I was giving her freon while running the condenser fan kicked on but the compressor didn't. So now with the A/C turned off and the motor running the condenser fan runs all the time when the motor is running. Start the motor up, turn on the A/C and compressor still won't kick in. I can kick it in by hot wiring the compressor and A/C works great. Or get it to kick in by grounding the pink wire at the relay. So,,,,,,,,,,I switched the 2 relays (one for the compressor and 1 for thew fan) and the same problem. Does anyone know what this might be?

Re: Auto A/C inop and checked it out, Questions.
i had the same problem on a 96. seems these have 2 coolant sensors one for engine temp and one for the ecm to turn off the ac if the engine gets to hot. the one for the ac on mine had broke off and was laying next to the sensor. hoohed it back up and then had ice cold air. steve

Re: Auto A/C inop and checked it out, Questions.
Okay,,,,on mine I found a yellow with blue stripe wire just laying below the thermostat housing but no where to plug it into. From the Haynes books it says that wirs in for the temp coolant switch. That's the one for the compressor. So this motor was swapped out before I bought it and I bet it's a non A/C motor. That's why there's no switch. Right at the thermostat housing I have the coolant sensor, then next to that is a sensor with 2 wires (red with yellow and tan with yellow) next to that another sensor with 2 wires (red with black and tan with yellow) But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nowhere for the yellow with blue wire to plug onto. Could you or anyone with A/C check to see if they have the same setup? Maybe even send me some pics. I believe what's happening here is the switch for the A/C coolant temp switch isn't there cause the motor came from a non A/C car. My email is [email protected]
