Help choosing a 1998 GTP Mod

Hi. I just bought a 1998 GTP and have little money. I want to know what people think I should do.

FlowMasters New Computer Chip
Shorter Supercharger Pulley
Cold Air Intake
LS6 Valvesprings
3800SC Stage 1/2/3/4/5/6 Performance Package (will save up for this)

Search for 3800SC Stage 1 Performance Package on google.com to see what the package includes and the price.

Select Thermostat Temperature: 160 degree
Select Cold Air Induction System: MotorSports Performance Cold Air Induction System (add $45.00) $45.00
Select Exhaust System: SLP "Loudmouth" Exhaust System with dual/dual tips (add $120.00) $120.00
Add the SLP Headers Installation Kit: Yes (add $80.99) $80.99
SLP Headers Downpipe Selection: Add the SLP High-Flow Cat (add $179.99 with free S/H) $179.99
Select Pulley Setup: Modular Pulley System (add $75.00) $75.00
Select Pulley Size: 3.0" Pulley
Select Pulley Puller Option: Rent the Puller (add $135.00 to total - $35 to rent, with $100.00 refundable core charge) $135.00

No Thanks
Enter Full Name for Disclaimer: Test Price
Your Model and Year: 1998 Grand Prix GTP
PCM Core Charge Selection: I will return my core - Add $100.00 refundable core charge $100.00
Add IAT Extension: Yes (add $20.00) $20.00
Select Cone Filter Option: Optional PowerStack (add $11.00) $3,206.97 for the best of the best.

I think I should go with the Stage 6 package but I will have to save a lot and pay someone to install it all.

Any suggestions?

Re: Help choosing a 1998 GTP Mod

Welcome to AF!!

It sounds like you want to start at the top and go from there. I recommend you start out small. First, open up the exhaust by removing the U-bend. This will increase exhaust flow and give you some power. A cold air intake will improve breathing as well and will not cost a lot of money. The next step in the budget mods would be a set of headers. Better exhaust flow and will help improve performance once you install a smaller supercharger pulley a 3.25" pulley would be a good choice. Then get a reprogrammed PCM. I believe DHP will reprogram it for you for $99 if you send them your PCM. Finally, you may want to go with different ratio rocker arms as the next step. All of these items are bolt ons and don't involve pulling the engine or removing too many components. All the above mods will cost you less than $1500 and are perfectly acceptable for street performance. And the good thing is you can do all of the above mods yourself and save a bunch of money.
