93 Nissan Pathfinder electrical short
I have a problem with my SUV, It has a short somewhere because If i dont drive it for 1-2 days the battery will completly die, even if i charge the battery fully, it will last 2-3 days without driving and will die completly, no power what so ever. What could I check around the car to see if there is any shorts around it?

Re: 93 Nissan Pathfinder electrical short
i would try any and all lights. theres one under the hood i believe i would start with that. next you can get a volt meter and while the car is off go threw the fuse box and look to see if anything is pulling juice.

Re: 93 Nissan Pathfinder electrical short
Is your battery good? check the output of the alternater and the tension of the belt. if all this is good then disconnect your negetive battery cable and put a volt meter from it to ground and start polling fuses untill the short goes away. The problem is in that circuit. But be sure your battery is good first of all.

Re: 93 Nissan Pathfinder electrical short
Check your owners manual, there is a paragraph on page 2-22 about using the auto function that is part of the headlight switch. It reads: Caution: When you turn on the headlight switch after the lights automatically tun off, the lights will not turn off automatically. Be sure to turn the light switch to the OFF position when you leave the vehicle for extended periods of time, otherwise the battery will go dead".
I hope the fix is as simple as this!! Good luck!! |

Re: 93 Nissan Pathfinder electrical short
I don't think the 93's have auto headlights.
Definitely test the battery, if it has a dead cell it could drain internally by itself. Apart from that, you can do a simple fuse pull test. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery, then connect a multimeter between the end of the cable and the battery's negative terminal. Turn the multimeter on and set it to amp measurement. If it has a short somewhere, the amp draw will be slightly more than zero. Get into your fuse panel, then pull one fuse at a time. When the fuse you pull makes the multimeter read zero, you have found your power drain. Then you can start taking a look at everything in that circuit instead of not having a place to start.
