89 Escort GT 1.9
I have a 89 Ford Escort 1.9L HO 5 speed that has 346,000 miles and is still running great. However recently my tach needle has begun to pulsate and read incorrectly. There is also hesitation and getting worse in
driveability. How can I correct the needle to settle down? I had into Ford dealership today and they said the tach problem could be in the cluster panel, too expensive to fix! I installed a new TFI module but did not settle down the tach. Engine is starting to buck a bit and it doesn't matter what speed u r at/.

Re: 89 Escort GT 1.9
Can you tell if the tach is jumping in sync with the hesitation you noticed, or is it somewhat random?
With so many miles it could simply be worn parts on the tach. If you have the parts or tools handy, hook up a secondary tach and compare readings. Last edited by mightymoose_22; 08-02-2006 at 09:15 PM. |

Re: 89 Escort GT 1.9
Pull the plugs and give them a close inspection ... do all of them have a bit of white ash on the electrode? You may want to install new clean plugs just so you can watch how they appear over time.
Also check the cables for hi-voltage leaking. |

Re: 89 Escort GT 1.9
if the problem is the cluster then get a cluster from a yard and replace it yourself
