Busted torsion bar control arm
(2000 Durango) I've been having issues that my front left wheel felt sloppy when I turned slowly, like going up the curb into my driveway. Then just today, I heard my front left wheel making a lot of noise. When I get home, I took a peak and saw that the control arm was sheared off (torsion bar looks alright, though - just not connected to anything on one side). Don't know if anything else is wrong.
I don't know much about suspensions. Is this an emerency...must fix now and avoid driving this way, or is it something that will just make it sloppy and it can wait a week to take it in to the dealer? Thanks. |

Re: Busted torsion bar control arm
If nothing else, I would think that you would get some significant early tire wear & I would not want to get into any hairy emergency steering situations if I were you. This might be very unsafe.
Not a mechanic myself, but I would fix it or have it fixed immediately. Would think a front end alignment would then have to be done. Get a Haynes manual to see if it's an easy fix & what else has to be done. The alignment should be done by professionals. There's places around here (Phoenix, AZ) that will check your alignment for free. If you change it yourself & it's within specs, why get an alignment done? Again, I'm no mechanic. |
