2006 Matrix XR Acceleration

So i got a 2006 matrix xr today and coming from an SLK (yes i know, major downgrade), the acceleration just isnt fast enough for me. I did notice that there is a "2" and "L" on the gear shift and also a O/D. Is there any way to incorporate those into making the car accelerate faster?

Re: 2006 Matrix XR Acceleration

I just bought a 2006 Matrix myself and I love it, with the exception of the acceleration.

As with any vehicle with an automatic transmission, you can "manually" shift through "L", "2" and "D", but I don't think that will provide any performance increast. Usually, the shift points are programmed for optimum performance. The only time you should turn off overdrive is when you're towing something. If you're not towing, you're just wasting gas and putting unnecessary wear on the engine.

The first thing I would do is install a K&N air filter. That should run you in the neighborhood of about $50.00 USD, give or take.

When I put a K&N into my car, I noticed a big difference in acceleration. You won't win any races, but it's a definite improvement.

Re: 2006 Matrix XR Acceleration

As far as acceleration goes, I wouldn't go with K&N. Those oare in my opinion mainly for American made cars, with a Matrix I'd probably skip replacing the filter and spend about $250 on an intake, and for that car it shouldn't be hard to find. http://www.andysautosport.com is probably your best bet, they have everything. The intake should probably add about 10-12 HP.
