Re: Illegal Street Racing VS Legal Hillclimbs: debate it

In street racing there is a danger from pedestrians, animals, other traffic, cops...who knows what else?

In hill-climbing the only danger to the driver is his own over-confidence.

oh,
well in that case hill climbing is safer hands down.

Re: Illegal Street Racing VS Legal Hillclimbs: debate it

“Street racing” is too broad of a term to categorize it into one thing. Are you talking about freeway street racing, where two cars go at it from a roll? How about stop light street races, where you see a car you want to race at 2pm with traffic. Then you have the “organized” street races where a bunch of people gather in some unpopular area at 1am and race.

A “street race” could technically be on a one way street, with no side entrances, much like a freeway, with concrete barriers on either side of the street. Two lanes, with two cars, at a time where there is either no innocent people or very little, who are behind them.

Either is dangerous, but I would say most forms of street racing carry a higher risk factor than hill climbs.

Re: Illegal Street Racing VS Legal Hillclimbs: debate it

You can die or get hurt doing either. You can die or get hurt just by getting out of bed in the morning. I don't see the point in saying any one is more dangerous than the other? I mean, in street racing, you could hit another car. In hill climb, you could fall off a damned cliff. They both carry their own associated risks and bennefits. Saying one is more dangerous than the other is dumb, I've seen people survive a reckless driving 75mph+ bike drop, and then I've seen people die from dropping the bike at 5mph. Does that mean driving a motorcycle recklessly is safer?

i know cassie but that doesnt mean one doesnt have more of a risk than the other. statistics do play a part in life. both are dangerous, and playing football can be dangerous too. but i bet more people have died from street racing than playing football..... know what i mean?

Cassie, the point is this:

I say to my friend, "Hey, you should come out an hillclimb. You would love it."

He says, "No way, it's too dangerous."

Yes, he street races several times a week, every week and has lost his license for it. Get my point?

Re: Illegal Street Racing VS Legal Hillclimbs: debate it

No, whats your point? Are you trying to say hillclimb is safer than street racing? Any form of racing, be it legal or illegal, has its risks. If track racing is SO much safer than street racing, then how come people have died on the tracks, WITH safty gear designed to keep you alive. Im not saying street racing is safe, Im saying that racing, regardless, is dangerous. Yes, the guy you are talking to is dumb for saying street racing is less dangerous than hill climb, but its equally dumb to say any form of legal, sanctioned racing is safer than street racing. The only difference is that when on a track, the danger is controlled and isolated, as opposed to the street, where it isn't controled.

Haven't we already discussed this point... why do you keep bringing it up?

J/H What car does your Friend drive And how is the car setup? He could just say that because he doesnt have a suspension for a a twist hillclimb so he doesnt whant to look like a complete Fool in front of you. for his own pride.
For example i had a guy at work with a mustang talking shit that he would tear me a new one on the Drag strip so i challeged him to an auto X and he denied it "because that's dangerous and stupid,Drag's where its at" so i asked him whats his 1/4 time and he toled me his best pass on street tires was a 14.7 but he said he'd run me on slicks and i Accepeted but olny if he auto x with me and we never did it. but he did supposively have suspension on his mustang But he just wanted to win with no challenge

Go watch a hillclimb or go race in one and then decide which is more dangerous
