Recharging AC for 92 PA

Hi - well ive had my 92 pa for about 4 years, and never bothered having the a/c recharged. It occurred to me today while driving around in 95degree weather - What the Hell am i Doing? As far as i know my compressor works - Has anyone had experience with having their R-12 a/c system changed to the newer type, and how much does it cost? Is it just a matter of having it evacuated, and recharged with teh new stuff, or do you have to change with new components etc? Does JiffyLube or similiar do this? Thanks for any info. It would be so nice to have a/c while sitting in this terrible traffic around here (Washington DC) - thanks. Mike

There are short cut retro fits, but if you lost the original r12, then the leaks must be corrected, the cheap way may or may not work and if the compressor is weak or any lines porous it will not last. Google 134a retrofit there are many informative sites that will discuss the issues.
