more power for the SS Silverado

who here thinks the SS Silverado needs more "Balls" so to speak? i do. the current SS Silverados are only rated at 345hp. you can get the same power out of the 1500HD. they both have the same motor. what do you think the SS Silverado should get to be a contender in the Sport Truck market.

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

6sp. trans, chipped for 93 octane, 4:11 posi, lowered a tad, and maybe a beefier cam.

I think the displacement is there, just a little bit of tweaking

Well, technically the 1500HD 6.0L is an LQ4, whereas the Silverado 6.0L is an LQ9.
All the Silverado SS needs to be a contender is a better set of heads, a larger cam, and a nice 3000 to 3600(depending on cam size) stall converter.
Of course the LS7 out of the Z06 would be pretty nice as well though. Turbos are great for making power, but installing them on a larger platform is always better!!!

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

That "Left the Emergancy Brake On" Stall feeling is still funny to get used to at 3000 rpm......

Turbo is next!

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

Slowprocess,

One of the guys in my neighborhood said the 3000 was to much and then laughs when I tell him the brake was left on

I can only imagine what a 5500 would act like!

Ehem.... What are you guys driving these engines at (8000+ RPM?) Surely these are not for street anymore?

I am an old school guy. My first fuel injected truck is a 2001 silverado 5.3. I cannot see these trucks cammed, stalled, chipped, dropped, tubbed etc. They feel to "plastic-like" or "techy".

All of my previous rides were pre 1980-carbeurated. So forgive my naivetee

PS What does the "computer" think of a new stall converter, heads, cam etc? I bet you really have to dumb down the computer when you deck these trucks out eh?

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

My power curve starts at 2800 and goes to 6600. 1st to 2nd shift is set at 6500rpm/52mph and 2nd to 3rd is 6300rpm/92mph. So my stall is 3000. Drives different in town but you can't have the best of all worlds, there is a trade off in there somewhere. After the install the only change we did was the lock up point. Even after I get the turbo installed I will have a different cam and still keep the 3000 stall.

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

I think Chevy should stick to what works best for them.. Engines that beat Ford's supercharged POS.
The SS is a little under powered for the statue, but I think the Intimidator makes up for that.

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

The Intimidator package is visual and nothing else......

Remember that Chevrolet wants nothing to compete with the Vette... so the SSS is dead and will not get a bigger HP.

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

That is not what I have seen. I have seen the Intimador with 390hp sitting at the local dealership.

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

i would say 390 will do it.but at what cost?go back and look at the window sticker again and tell us the price.and lemme know what options r on it.i personally could do without embroidered leather seats, onstar, dvd players, all wheel drive, 20 inch rims, and any other option not vital to winning a drag race against a lightning. its a shame. why is it that on a monte carlo u get about 4 different power options to choose from all at affordable prices? yet if u want a truck with a more powerful engine u have to pay over 40 grand for an appearance package? someone send these momos a letter

Re: more power for the SS Silverado

So far The LQ9 has only produced 345 HP at the Flywheel in the Silverados. If they added a bolt on maybe. For 45 more horses that is a few add ons or a bigger "fib".

Check the Vin and if the 8th letter is an N it is the LQ9. If it is something else let us know. If the Dealer added something let us see it. You have my curiousity...........
