Is it possible to drop a 405 chevy small block(i think) into a 77 cutlass without many changes and costs? I was told that it would be almost impossible and require many new parts. help me out. thanks

Re: engine drop
i'm not a big ch*** man, but the 405 ci doesn't ring any chimes. however, olds made a nice 403 small block that you may be thinking of ...big valves, big pistons and a short stroke. there are certain issues with that engine that may not make it the high revving power house you want, but for a strong street machine, it may just fill your bill. go to "ask. com" and ask jeeves to tell you all about the 403. he'll take you to a site called "the olds faq compiler". everything you want to know is answered there. it's an informative site

Re: engine drop
if the 77' is the same as the 76' cutlass(I couldnt remember) it should in deed fit.
I hav a 76' Cutlass 442 and it came with a 455. It now has a 350 olds, nothing but the engine mounts were changed. I was thinking the 77' though was when they went to the smaller frame and bodys... Hope that helped out a little cutlassman !
