HELP 87 cutlass ciera

I bought this car and the guy told me it only needed two things, valve cover gasket and break pads, well after having to replace the rotors and getting the rear drum breaks fixed aswell i was told there was a major oil leak. the mechanic told me there are 3 places it can be leaking from, either the front main oil seal, crankshaft seal or camshaft seal. how hard would it be to replace one of these and what should a normal shop charge me. I allready got ripped off once and cant afford it to happen again. Thanks

Andrew

Re: HELP 87 cutlass ciera

Now there is a knocking noise coming from the engine. sitting in the passanger seat its coming from the right hand side? sounds like a lifter an timing chain, or maybe its a rod knocking. perhaps i should try premium fuel to help with the knocking? Anyone know how to get the door panels off without the door open, my passenger front door wont open, and my seatbelt will not release anyway of fixing that?

Thanks, Andrew

Exclamation Re: HELP 87 cutlass ciera

Forget the door panel find out about the engine knock, first priority, no premium is not the answer.

Re: HELP 87 cutlass ciera

Well if the motor stays running for 3-4 months i will be happy cause by then ill have a good down payment saved up for a new vehicle. i did the motor oil stop leak thing and it seems to have worked great. how long after doing the stop leak can i do an oil change? i was going to change to 20w-50, the guy at advance auto said the heavier thicker oil would quite the "knock" down a good bit. he also said it sounds like the lifter and timing chain, but also might be something else. i know there is no cheap way to fix it so i just want to try an make do with it untill i can buy a new car. any tips would be perfect.... please and thanks for all the help

Can you tell us what size engine this has? That would help with diagnosing your problem.

I believe it is the 3.3L v6 and it seems like the noise is getting a little worse, and when i put it in to gear the motor jumps real hard

The car is not worth much. I wouldn't put another dime in it. Run it till it drops and by another $200.00 car.
