Rear Heating/Cooling System

2000 Montana. Has the Rear Heating/Cooling, except for the rear controller, which was not in the car when we got it. The Dashboard control for the Rear is there, and the fan controls work. It just seems that when we run the air conditioner the air isn't so cool out the rear vents. I was curious if the rear controller had been left on a warmer setting when it was removed, would this cause warmer air to blow out the rear vents? And how much would this rear controller cost at a junkyard?

I take it that you have an empty hole where the rear control pad was?

You'll just have to call around to some junkyards and get your price; once you have some controls back in there, it's a little easier to do the rest of the troubleshooting.

I also have a 2000 Montana and my Rear AC does not blow cold, though I have all the controls and nothing seems to help. Any other ideas?

I have the same problem, checked around, searched everywhere, dug into the panels, and nothing....

Mine is an 01. Rear AC

Ok I fixed this some time ago but forgot to post (my 1 year old is keeping me busy).
I found out there are two things that can cause this problem, first there is the rear expansion valve getting clogged or frozen up (that was my problem that I will explain how to fix) and then there is a switch in the cooling lines up in the front that can get frozen up or clogged as well.
You will need to de-compress your AC system before removing the valve. The expansion valve that is on the drivers side about 1' from the rear hatch. You have to remove the whole side panel to get to it, and that is a pain let me tell you. Now the expansion valve is wrapped in the foam and sits about 1' up from the floor, you will need to unwrap all the foam carefully to reuse it when your done replacing it. My expansion valve was clogged up because when the AC compress was replaced before I bought the van and they didn't clean the lines when they installed the new one. This causes all the metal shavings to go into the expansion valve and clog it. We used a compressor and some AC cleaning fluid to clean out the lines. We disconnected the front lines to clean the system out making sure none got in the compressor. I was able to clean my valve out and it worked fine, but I recommend just getting a new one from your local parts store because there is no way to test the valve until after you put it in, and you will waste your charge if it doesn't work. Once the lines are good and clean and you get the new valve in and everything reconnected you will want to put a vacuum on the system to test it for leaks. If there are no leaks then charge away and your rear AC will blow cold air, mines been working since last July without any problems.
