1990 525i headgasket? and water pump?
i have a 1990 525i that has been over heating for the past 3 months and losing coolant. 4 times i had to bleed out the cooling system and add coolant and then its fine for about 3 weeks. Today it overheated on my father so i went to help him and bled it all out again and he got less than 1/8th of a mile from my house and all kinds of smoke came out and it over heated. Now the engine has very little oil in it same with the coolant when 30 minutes before that both were full. Could this be a head gasket problem? also the car has a rough idle that i figured could be caused by that too. Also it took a really long time to get the coolant circulating through the radiator again where it comes out of that little spout Atleast an hour today where the thermostat was bone dry until i finally got it to work. Could this be a bad water pump also?

Re: 1990 525i headgasket? and water pump?
well it could be.Is there oil in the coolant?signs of the head gasket itself leaking?does the smoke smell like anti-freeze?There is more signs but these are good ones.besides if it is ur head gasket while i was in there i'd change the waterpump and themostat and there gaskets because the water pump ain't fun to get to and u don't want to have it all togather and take the pump off again because it is bad. Good Luck

if it cooled down and is fine then your head ain't warped cus if it was u'd need to me machined or replaced so odds are it didn't hurt the head hopefully.
