Sorry for the noob question, but what exactly is the difference between a 9-bolt and 12-bolt rear end? Is one stronger than the other or one have more function that the other? Not quite sure. I wish I wasn't a dumbass.

Its not a 9 bolt, its a Ford 9 inch as in reference to the ring gear size while 12 bolt refers to the GM rear. Most critics agree the ford is the stronger rear due mostly to the better axle design but the 12 bolt loses less power and is nearly as strong.

3" duals with an x-pipe.


Manual cars shock the rear end more on launch and should get the 9" where auto cars preload the rear end on launch and you are more than good with the 12 bolt.
