Oil on the plugs.

My brother tried posting this in the Cavy forum but they're no help there. He has a '99 Cavy and it had started smoking for a week or so. It was burning the oil but then it randomly quit. He started smelling gas real bad so he changed the plugs and wires and it fixed it for a day or so. His plugs were covered in oil both times. Any ideas what he should look for? Thanks.

Re: Oil on the plugs.

it sounds like some of his rings are all messed up.. needs an overhaul soon? did he 'race' his cav before? like redline it a lot..etc? if theres oil on the plugs, thats a bad sign since a lot of oil is not spposed to get into the cylinders..

Re: Oil on the plugs.

That's what I had thought was bad rings and my uncle suggested that might be the problem. He drives like an idiot all the time, he's blew my moms Bonneville up twice in under 3 months. Thanks for the reply!

Re: Oil on the plugs.

Do a compression check to confirm before tearing it apart at random.

Re: Oil on the plugs.

i agree with wrightz28, it coul also be very bad valve seals. Four cylenders valve seals go bad quickly.
