96 5.0 V8 Transmission fluid?

I have the Ford 302 96 Explorer and it has a leaking transmission pan seal. I have the new seal and filter and am going to be changing it tommorow. I have been putting Mercon V in it while it was leaking per the guy at auto zone, but now that i am reading up on this little project, i am wondering if i have been using the right fluid. Seems my explorer came with mercon. Of course Mercon is cheaper, but im sure there will be some mercon V left in there after the change. Flushing could always be an option i guess. I also remember Ford saying Mercon V can be used in the 93-96 explorers, but does that also include the V8 302?

Answers are appreciatted. Mileage is 128k if that is needed.

Mercon V can be used in your Explorer. The upgraded fluid can replace older fluid without any adverse effects. Should be no problems with your transmission.
