Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

Hey all. It's been a loooong time since I've been on this forum. Anyhow, I just bought a new car - a 1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXi - Silver Metallic Platinum.

I thought that it would be pretty sweet to do a model replica of my car, painting it with the same color scheme and such. I looked all around our Hobby Lobby, but couldnt' find one. Do they even make these? Am I asking the impossible? I'm doing alot to my car, such as building a custom trunk, paint, etc. I thought it would be pretty cool in my trunk to build it around the model, like placing the model inside of a casing and giving it some light and stuff in one of the walls of my trunk.

If anyone could point me somewhere to begin looking for my Sebring Convertible model, that would be sweet!

I've attached a picture of my car so that you guys know what I'm working with:

Thanks again!
- Steven

Re: Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

Please reduce the size of that image to something aroung 640x480

And, No, there are no models of that particular car unless you can find a dealer promo

This is not true, Lindberg made this kit.

I build one for my father, the kit is not bad, there is some fitting problems but the kit is nice in the end. The main difference for you will be the wheels.

Sweet! I'd been of the impression there wasn't a kit of the Sebring.

Now I know different

Re: Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

AWESOME!!!!! I might certainly have to get me one of those!!

They don't happen to have one, circa. 1999 or 2000 do they? The only difference between them is that the '99 and '00 have the wing emblem for the front grill, which was changed from the medallion of the previous years.

I'm sure I could probably try to fabricate one myself on there, but I'm really bad at anything artistic, that's not just paint and glue...

Re: Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

I guess you could get the PT cruiser detail set and use the emblem from it, IF it will fit:

Re: Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

Lindberg only did that one year of Sebring CV.

The kit is merely the unbuilt promo. You may find it easier to find a promo than the kit. You'll have to do the grille emblem on your own.

Here's my kit, fairly unremarkable. What you see is what you get. You'll also have to find different wheels.

There's also a very rare diecast Sebring CV promo by Brookfield Collectors Guild. Looks almost identical to the Lindberg model, but it actually has a working CV top. The top material is really strange It was a production nightmare hence it's rarity.

Re: Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

Forgive my naivity, but how hard is one of those kits from Model Express?

I mean, I understand by looking at the picture that it's a Level 1 skill level. However, I am assuming that it means that everything is already pre-painted and detailed and such? Because if that's the case, how hard is it to repaint it, and make my own custom touches on it to make tie way I would like it, rather than it just being a standard snap-kit that a 2-year old could put together?

Re: Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

As I recall, the kit came with decals and the promo came with stickers. (I did the art for most of those Lindberg kits, but that was sometime ago and can't swear to it without checking.) I can double check if you wish. They both come unpainted... - Mark

Re: Looking for a Sebring Convertible....

The kit came with decals; I had to write Lindberg for replacements as my kit's decals hadn't been sealed and broke up when they hit water. They quickly responded.

The kit is simple, molded in color (burgundy body, gray interior, black chassis, chrome wheels/lamps/grille, clear glass) and needs basic painting/detailing skills to make look like a finished model.
