'95 Accord ABS Problem

The ABS lamp on my daughter's '95 Accord came on the other day and it was caused by low fluid in the ABS resivoir. It has been filled and the mechanic said keep an eye on it as they are not suppoed to leak. If it is a very slow leak it should work ok if we keep it filled, if it leaks down rapidly the unit may need to be repaired if possible or replaced, cost of new unit was quoted at $1300.00 by my mech. Is it possible to repair one? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Emmett

I can tell I'm not up to speed on this one, because I don't recall them having a seperate resevoir for the ABS...are you sure about that part? And the ABS system consists of many components, which is he thinking is the problem? There's a pump, accumulator, valve body, solenoids, etc...would need more info...and you do too, if you don't wanna get ripped...

It is normal for brake fluid level to drop slowly as the linings wear, at a point this would trigger the "Brake" indicator, adding fluid would put it out...are we certain it's the ABS we're talking about?

Definitely yes the '95 Accord has a small box like resivoir on the right(read driver's side) side of the engine in front. Haynes gives instructions to check this resivoir if the ABS lamp comes on. Later, Emmett

OK, that's good to know...as you can see, Hondas aren't my "thing" so I didn't know...I'll leave the advice on this one to the ones here who know more about them specifically...Have you noted any leakage under the car or wetness where it shouldn't be?

I'm just curious where it's coming from and if it's common...My sisters both have Accords, that's why I try to stay current on them by being here...always learn new stuff, and hopefully my general knowlege can help someone as well..

PS, when talking cars, the standard for left and right is as seated in the car, so when you say something is on the left under the hood, you are speaking about the driver's side....it avoids a lot of confusion when talking about locations...and makes sure the mechanic understands what you are telling them...

Not nitpicking, just figure the more people who know, eventually it will become common knowlege...at the shop I'd always verify by asking the customer when they said left or right, "driver's side or passenger?", about half the time they were telling me the wrong side....
