another exteneded drive and...
In another thread of mine i mentioned how pleased I was with the Rodeo's performance on an extended drive. I did another one(moved from Buffalo, NY to Timonium, Maryland- near Baltimore). The Rodeo did well, but when I got to my new apartment, I stepped out of the Rodeo and there was a loud screaming combined with a airy type noise. It was loud. It sounded like it was coming from the underside of the vehicle.
Now here's the weird part, i turned off the Rodeo and turned it on, without starting it and the noise came back for several seconds. The next morning I took it to a local goodyear mechanic near my place. They were actually really great. They could not get the noise to come back. I went back in and went out to the bay that had my car, there was no noise at all. We left it running for a while, even took it for a drive, nohing. Any ideas what it could have been? We were thinking fuel pump. The rodeo runs great. Another thing that may please some of you(I know Ramblin will like it) I did a full flush of the tranny. It was due and they said the old fluid looked good, so hopefully it continues the great shifting. It does shift nice though. I also got an oil change(I haven't got my tools, plus it is hot here) due to the Auto RX that was in there and I was talked into a serp belt. That was $120. I wish I did it before I left, but they showed it to me, the belt was toast. Again, no tools to do it myself. The only bad thing about my move is there is no Advance Auto or Autozone's near by. I like those places. Of course I go more than a few blocks and I need a map. thanks for the help, marc |

Re: another exteneded drive and...
I got out under my Rodeo today to do a quick AT fluid swap after seeing all the recent posts. I can't leave well enough alone. Unfortunately, instead of some really fine particles glistening in the old fluid as I usually see, I found what I would describe as shavings, very small but definitely bigger than any I've ever seen in there. Fluid color was nearly as good as the new. I wonder if dropping the tranny to do the freeze plugs changed anything in the tranny...

Congrats on the move. Hate to see another Buffalonian bail. You musta got that job! That's the main thing. My BIL lived in Towsend MD for awhile, worked for Loyola College. In regards to your screaching thing, I'm thinking a fuel pump maybe? They tend to get LOUD just before they die.

Thanks, yea, I got the job. the last thing I want is a dead car on the first day, but it seems fine now. I'll have to get up extra early every morning to keep an eye on it. i hated leaving my family and friends, but you do what you've got to do. I'm excited about my new career and its got loads of potential, but I don't see myself ever moving back, at least not for a while. Cool thing is, my sister and her family live in Maryland a couple hours from me. marc |

Re: another exteneded drive and...
Try using some marvel mystery oil or some such in the tank. Will help lubricate the pump and might prolong the life of it.
I know mine was kinda noisy on my first trip the mountains. Havent heard it since then but havent added anything to the tank either. Was considering doing that once in a while in hopes of prolonging the life of it. UPDATE: Was in the mountains again today and heard it whinning on the trail to bill moore lake. On the way back down I realized I didnt hear it anymore. Kinda of worried me, cuz as long as it was noisey I knew it was working lol.
