What brand/type of plugs should I use...
on my 2003 Dodge G.C. Sport, 3.3L flex. I have 68,000 miles on the van and want to change them at 75,000 to 80,000 miles. I am leaning towards Bosch Platinum +2 or the +4's or should i go to the dealership and get what came in it? I know AC Delco and Champion would not work well. What about Denso, NGK, Autolite? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: What brand/type of plugs should I use...
The Bosch plugs are not worth the money for the +2 or +4's since they do nothing for the engine. As a matter of fact I wouldn't use the Bosch anyway. I would go with either Autolite or go back to the dealer for some MOPAR plugs. Stay with platinum or iridium if you want long life.

The factory Champion platinums (which you should have) are good, per DC for 100,000 miles. (I just did my 1996 Caravan, SE Sport with 3.3 liter, at 100,000 miles). You can buy these at Advance for not too many $$. Teh front three are easy to change, the back three are a bear. I would go with the Champions.

Re: What brand/type of plugs should I use...
Champion copper plugs are probably the most used DC mini plugs because they were OEM. The platinums are reportedly good too and are factory on later models. I've had problems with Champion plugs in the past, so I try to avoid this brand. YMMV
Autolite double platinums are another popular choice. I run these in a T-Bird I have and they work flawlessly so far, after about 35K miles. NKG platinums are also in the running. I installed these in my 1999 Caravan. So far so good, but check back with me after another 60K or so. I think the Bosch single electrodes work but I notice performance starts to fall off after about 10K. I tried the double electrodes and they were miss-o-matics from the first fire-up. I wouldn't bother with double/quad electrodes again. Snake-oil methinks. I run copper AC Delcos in a GM car and they do the job, but I have no experience with them in DC cars/minis. Haven't tried their platinums yet. No personal experience with any other plug manufactures. May be someone else has used some of the other brands out there and will take the time to comment. |
