Alfa 157 spy shots

can be found at this website.

Quote:
This is Alfa Romeo's upcoming 157, the replacement for the 156 large family saloon and estate (Sportwagon), which has been around since 1997, albeit face-lifted last summer. The new model has been designed by Italian design legend Giorgetto Giugiaro, and its design influence has come from both the existing 156, and the exciting Brera concept car.

"I would have loved to have seen the Brera produced," Giugiaro told Auto Express in an interview in January 2003. "But I know this is virtually impossible. The car is not economically feasible in its current form."

Some cues from the Brera, however, will make it onto the 157, possibly the head- and tail-light treatment. Otherwise, the silhouette looks similar to the 156, though expect better rear legroom, and a 450-litre boot. And if these pictures are anything to go by, it looks like the hidden rear doorhandles might fall by the wayside in favour of conventional items, too.

The engines range is expected to be a mix of existing and new units, starting with a 130bhp 1.8, and including Alfa's current excellent Multijet turbodiesels. At the top of the range, Fiat's link with General Motors is expected to mean the adoption of a Holden-sourced 3.2-litre V6, putting out 220bhp. The 157 should be on European sale in autumn 2005.
