Exclamation 99 pontiac grand am gauges broke

ok the gauges in my dash of my pontiac grand am do not work. The lights kick on the digital readout works to show how many miles are on the car but it stays the same and never changes. The sticks that twll me my speed, rpm, gas, and temp all stay at zero and don't even bounce up when the car is turned on. This is killing me b/c i have to always guess at how much gas i have since i cant tell how many miles i have put on per tank and have no gas gauge. Not to mention that it would be nice to know how fast i;m going and so on PLEASE HELP I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON WITH IT THANKS!!!!!

Re: 99 pontiac grand am gauges broke

Welcome to AF !

Is that the only thing not working?

Has anyone had the dash apart or messed with the BCM?

Check your fuses.

The worsed case its broke, go check junk yards or Ebay, both would hav them relatively cheap. Under $80 or so.

Could also be the ignition switch. I had a similar gauge problem, along with other things not working, and replaced the BCM. That did not correct the problem. It turned out to be corroded contacts within the ignition switch. For about $80, you can get a new switch or for a lot less you can pop the back off the switch and clean the contacts.

Re: 99 pontiac grand am gauges broke

Corrosion is a problem with the 99+ GAs, especially if they hav sun/moon roofs.
I have replaced the fuse panels on the drivers side on several GAs due to corrosion. Most likly caused by a leak in the roof drains.

Cleaning the coorosion is a good way to save money, but it may come back again.

Good Luck !
