Re: Ken Lay - dead

Better that way than dropping dead in the courtroom during sentencing. But he should have suffered in prison for his wrongdoing and all the people he screwed over. Either way he'll rot in hell.

Re: Ken Lay - dead

I don't know whether I feel sorry for his family because they lost a loved on, or because they loved a crook. Anyways, the conspiracy theorist are going crazy now.

Re: Ken Lay - dead

Yeah. The slippery fucker died before he could see any jail time. Now they're sayin the rulings against him might be overturned in light of his death. This would prevent enforcement of the $40 million in levies against his estate. I guess its better that way so his family won't have to pay for his bullshit. But when you think about it, the money they're keeping is the money he stole from investors/clients.

Re: Ken Lay - dead

I was surprised when I heard of his passing. My immediate reaction was that the former employees of Enron may feel "shortchanged" in that they didn't get to see him go to prison to pay for what he did.

Yes, some people will do anything to get out of going to prison and paying a fine. Of course I think he may be suffering even more (where he is now) after the way he screwed his former employees and the stock holders. I really hope he doesn't RIP!

Re: Ken Lay - dead

A friend of mine, ex college roomate, actually had the audacity to say at dinner last night that he feels Ken Lay was innocent. My other friend and I at first stared at each other in disbelief and then started laughing.

He claimed his reasoning was based on his charitable contributions, and the fact that he gave a lot of money to his church. This made me laugh even harder. I told him just because the guy gave to his church and a bunch of other charities doesn't mean jack. A lot of powerful people do things publicly in hopes of having people think that they are caring and compasionate. He actually also said Lay had a lot to do with helping get Bush elected. That one I find hard to believe.

He then went on to say Lay probably knew what was going on, but Schilling was really behind the whole thing. So we threw it back in his face that if he was such a great guy and not a crook why the hell did he not stop it, leave the company or anything else. Schilling resigned, Lay did not. Schilling is at just as much fault as the crook. But during the trial Schilling seemed to talk about anything that was brought up. Lay sort of wiggled his way around accusations in terms of answering questions.

Anyway, that just boiled my blood like nothing else. He is an accountant, and I hope he doesn't get too deep in, but I wouldn't be surprised if down the road in his career he tries to hide some shit that catches up to him. I know him to well to not see it attempted. He can be pretty greedy.

Here's an article about Lay's early crooked ways.

Re: Ken Lay - dead

There was a great political cartoon in our local paper this morning. I tried to find it on the web to post here but couldn't. The cartoon shows 2 older heavy set businessmen looking at a tombstone in a cemetary. The tombstone reads:
Here
Lay
Ken
Lies
