Red face '99 Grand Am SE Electrical Issues

Hello,

Lately my car seems to be possesed! I filled the car with gas and while driving home the gas gage (which never reads correctly to begin with) dropped all the way to empty and binged at me to say I was on empty. It then went back to the full reading. It always reads "full" when I go below a quarter tank so I keep it above a quarter tank.

I was sitting at Wendy's with the car running, I turned off the car to eat my food. About three minutes later the interior light comes on, then goes off, then comes on again. I started the car, it turned off the dome light. Hasn't happened again (yet).

I go to turn down the volume on the radio, suddenly it's like I'm at a concert! It was so loud I almost swerved into oncoming traffic, thought my heart was going to explode out my chest! Blew the passenger side front speaker...

Positions 1, 2 and 3 won't work on my blower.

The clock/channel indicator for the radio doesn't work anymore.

Turned off my car and the day-time running lights turned off, at night (there is usually a delay). Turned on the car and the lights didn't come on, just the parking lights. Only happened the one time so far.

I've checked all the fuses, they are okay. Have a new alternator, belt, tensioner and battery.

I tried a search on this forum for anyone else having these particular issues, couldn't find anything.

Re: '99 Grand Am SE Electrical Issues

Welcome to grand am !

these are all fixable, well mostly.
The gauge thing is the float level in hte tank, most all 99s do this untill its replaced with an updated flaot.

The interior lights, hard telling, sure it was because you left the key in the ignition

The blower is a resistor thats bad, its under the panel on the passenger side floor. Its a Pita!
its behind the fan/blowr, easier to remove the blowr.

Haha! the volume
the volume does this on a lot of GMs , not just yours

Also the display is a bulb in the radio, that can be replaced for around $6-8 think the GM part # is 16208443

Hope that helps !
