What goes on end of clutch cable?

I finally got my transmission in and attempted to install my replacement clutch cable, but there's no "cupped washer" at the bell housing end of the clutch cable. Why wouldn't the "cupped washer" come with the clutch cable? This is ridiculous. I'm so angry.

Anyway, does anyone know where to get one or have any suggestions?

The whole reason I'm doing all this work is because my original clutch cable broke at the cupped washer. The cupped washer fell into the clutch and made a really fun noise so I decided to replace the clutch and clutch cable, but my replacement cable has no cupped washer so there's no way I can secure it to the transaxle.

I called Dodge. Replacement clutch cable is $119! Holy moly! The one I got from Checker (that doesn't work) is only $20.

I was thinking about that, but my stock clutch cable broke at 90,000 miles. I don't want to go through this whole mess again, but I also don't want to pay $119. Hmm.

Is this a common problem with the 1995 clutch cable or am I just lucky?

Re: What goes on end of clutch cable?

they usually dont break in that manor so a jy one is not a bad thing. plus you could always look at the miles on the car your taking off of, if the cluster is still there.

ive only read of mabey 2 other people braking there cable. im on many diff neon sites. so if you do get a jy one i wouldnt worry obout it happening again

Re: What goes on end of clutch cable?

Is there another name for "clutch cable"? Some auto recyclers and junk yards in Hawaii have online inventories of their parts, but I see no option for "clutch cable." What the heck is a "clutch master cylinder?" Maybe that's in automatics. I find it amazing that a clutch cable is such a hard part to find. I can't find any other retailers of the part except for Dodge. There's none on Ebay and I checked several websites with part inventories and there's no option for the part.

I know all my problems will be solved with a simple phone call to a junkyard, but it's 10 p.m. at night and they're not open, heheh.

Re: What goes on end of clutch cable?

clutch master cylinder is for cars with hydrolic clutches as opposed to cabled clutches(like the neon).

basically hydrolic clutches are like a brake system. it uses fluid pressure instead of cable pressure

Only 95-2000 neons are cable clutches, 2001+up are hydraulic.

Re: What goes on end of clutch cable?

Can you get a cable ferrule from a hardware store and crimp it on?

Is that the part? The end of the cable broke off? I haven't got a manual transmission on my Neon so I'm not sure what the cupped washer part is that you are indicating.

Well, I don't know what the stock cable end looks like because it got grinded up by the clutch. All I found in the clutch and bellhousing was a bent washer and nut, though. The hardware store idea sounds pretty good, but I want to real part to avoid any problems down the road (litterally.)

Does anyone know if there's supposed to be tension on the input shaft lever within the bellhousing? You know, that arm that the clutch cable connects to. Mine moves freely when not attached to the clutch cable. It worries me, heheh.

My nine to five work schedule is killing my car project. I have to find parts on Saturday, order them, wait a week or two for them to come in, and then find time on my day off to install them. I guess that's what everyone else does.

I installed my booger bushings last week! They look so awesome.
