Question first horn, then cruise control, not chaos

1998 Plymouth Voyager, 158,000 miles

At first the horn was working intermittently. Then the cruise control stopped working--and at the same time, the horn stopped working completely.

Now today we have a Service Engine Soon light, the speedometer is jumping from 0 to 120 and back again, then staying on 0. Checked oil, was down, so added 2 quarts, but the speedo problem is still going on--and when the speedo jumps to 120, the RPMs drop, so the van is driving herky jerky.

Are all these related problems--electrical?

Any suggestions?

My buddy has a vehicle computer, so we'll probably hook that up and see if we have error codes that we can take care of.

Thanks,
Thomas

the horn and cruise is probably a bad clockspring , this was covered under a recall, go to the dealer and have him run the VIN to see if it is covered . The other problem could be something like a bad speed sensor on the tranny , again it would have to scanned to see what the computer is saying .

Actually, you can run your VIN through Dodge's Recall Check Procedure online. The results of this check may (or may not) have some bearing on your current problem and your Dealer may have to fix it FREE by law. To find out if your vehicle has any current unperformed or incomplete recalls or customer satisfaction notifications, get the last 8 characters of your VIN and go here to make sure that your vehicle has had ALL of its recall work done:

Hey Thomas,

Just another vote for the clockspring. My horn/Cruise symptoms were exactly the same and the clockspring was the cure ... the other will most likely require computer diagnostics.

I have the same model as you.
I had the same symptoms and they charged me to replace the
clock-spring. Later that year, the recall came out for that,
I wrote and letter and was fully reimbursed for the clock-spring.
