Cutlass 94 temp

Can someone tell me what is a proper coolant temperature for my Cutlass Supreme 3.1 1994?

On small distances temp gage reading is about 200. On the rush hour this reading is ...hm ... about 12 o'clock..

I had a problem with overheating once (new gasket set, temp sensor, thermostat), so I'm bit worried now..

Important: my "Low coolant" warning light sometimes is flashing, but there is no coolant loss..

10x in advance

It should be running in the 200 to 220 range not much higher. Make sure that the fans are turning on and I would check the oil for water. If the low coolant light is on it sounds like there may be an issue with the manifold gaskets again especially if you keep losing coolant and there are no visible signs. You may also want to flush the radiator and make sure you have good airflow through it. A new thermostat may not hurt either.

1. Where is 220 on gage?

2. One or two fans should work?

I have changed gaskets, sensor & thermostat last week, after overheating. BTW, there is no coolant loss now.

Re: Cutlass 94 temp

The guage should be about 1/2 way for normal operation. As for the fans one fan usually comes on at a time. Turn your AC on and see if the fans come on to cool the radiator. If not test the fans with a 12 volt source as the motors may have gone bad. If the fans are working and come on properly you may end up flushing the radiator. It is also possible that the temp sensor is not properly grounded. If you used teflon tape remove it and remove the tape. Use a sealer that allows for a ground to insure proper operation, teflon tape most generally will interfere with the grounding process.

Probably a dirty coolant level sensor or a little air in the system. Air will cause it before anything else. Find the sensor and remove it. Clean the crud off of it and reinstall it. Should eliminate the light problem.

Re: Cutlass 94 temp

refer to gtp dads earlier post about cleaning the fluid sensor on the radiator it gunks up and sends bad signals. I had the same problem and cleaning it was all it needed u can try to clean it first and see what happens.
