2002 check engine light
I usually deal with Hondas and Toyotas, but my buddy has a check engine light on his car and it needs inspected. The code it thows is P0440 - exhaust gas recirculation. He said it was prolly the gas cap - ive never heard of that... but the questions are: what does it take for the computer to find the code again once erased? Can you erase the code in the parking lot of the inspection center and have it pass? Where did they stash the EGR, vapor canister and all that? Can you get a shop manual from a GM dealer?
Any help would be very useful. Thanks

Re: 2002 check engine light
if you disconect the battery, the computor will not be ready to test till the vehicle runs about 20 miles. if they have a treadmill and a sniffer, they will ask u if it's alright to test it that way and it might pass. did this with my truck. the check engine light would come on occasionally cause of the K&N intake and it passed this way.not sure about your state's testing.

Re: 2002 check engine light
I looked behind the gas tank where the charcol canister was. The wires from the canister to another computer were cut. I just spliced the wires back together and drove about five minutes to get it inspected. Everything was great. Thanks for the input.
