1998 JGC Ltd liftgate problem

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. and it has started to register that the lift gate is open intermmitantly while driving. The overhead lights come on and I get the warning beep while the console says the lift gate is open. It seems to happen more when I turn right than when I turn left. It also happens when I hit bumps. It was more annoying more than anything else until recently. Now there are times when this happens as I pull in to park and I am unable to set the alarm and the interior lights remain on. I have to pull out of the spot and try to re-park until the lights and message turn off. Anyone else experience this or anyone have an idea how I can get this fixed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open up the liftgate and have a look. There are a couple of sensors/switches that are activated when the gate is closed. Mine are made of plastic, and are showing wear (2000). If you replace these the problem should go away.

Actually, upon further searching I found some other threads that mentioned unplugging the sensor which I did. It worked great. No more annoying lights and beeps. That will hold me over until I can replace the sensor. Thanks for your reply.
