Re: Window regulator clips have snapped...
Can any of you tell me how you got the old clips off? The epoxy that is holding them on is as hard as a rock! Someone told me to try acetone but Im not having much luck. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Window regulator clips have snapped...
I got part of one off today using a hair dryer and a flathead. I went and got some epoxy remover from lowes and Im gonna try that next. If that doesnt work Im gonna get a dremel or a heat gun. Im worried that the tempered glass wont hold up to the heat gun but what the hell the worst I can do is break the glass and have to buy another. The hair dryer almost did the job it just wasnt quite hot enough.
Pot if its the clips that are attached to your window that are broken you need new sash clips. The auto parts store o'reilly sells them for like 5 dollars a piece. At least I know they sell them for the grand am, but Im pretty sure the grand am and aleros internals are identical. Why pay gm 30 or 40 dollars for something that costs .50 cents to make? I'm not gonna give those con artists anymore of my money. Anyways thanks for the advice guys. |

Re: Window regulator clips have snapped...
You can remove the old epoxy with a hammer and a stiff putty knife. Just tap the knife between the clilp and the glass and pry it up little by little. Just don't over do it.
I work for a company that makes automotive windows so I do this all the time. |

Re: Window regulator clips have snapped...
I appreciate the advice john. Ill try that next time instead of spending several hours cutting them off with a hacksaw lol. Since your in the glass business maybe you can tell me what to use for an adhesive for the new clips. A couple of guys on here said napa carries a 3M adhesive(does anyone know the part #) but I havent had any luck finding it at the local napa store. A glass shop told me to just use eurethane but they said half the time it works and half the time they fall off. So Im not really sure what to use and I dont want to do this over again as it was a major pain. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks |

Re: Window regulator clips have snapped...
You will need an epoxy definately. We use a Dow brand called "Betamate" #73015 structural adhesive and a Dow primer "Betaseal" #43518, but I seiously doubt you can purchase that anywhere.
Any type of epoxy should work as long as a glass primer is used prior to the adhesive being put on and it is put on a cleaned piece. Also keep in mind that most epoxy requires a 24hr period to achieve full adhesion. I'm guessing that this is where most people mess this up and they put pressure on the new pieces which breaks the bond of the epoxy. Once that initial bond to the primer is broken chances are the piece will fail. |

Re: Window regulator clips have snapped...
I was luck enough to find an auto glass guy that took off the clips and epoxed the new ones for less than $10. This was in addition to the second window regulator replacement in less than 18 months.
