Anyone's jeep running diffrent from the 10% ethanol gas?
I am just looking to see if i may be the only one or if everyone is feeling the effects of this new gas mandate. I generally avoided any gasohol like the plague because the buick i used to own wouldn't run very well at all with it in there. Now that i can't avoid it my jeep is just harder to crank than it used to be and i am blaming the gas because when the switch happened the diffrence was immediate. It went from taking half a second to start to cranking for about 15 seconds. let me know if any of you are feeling the diffrence

Re: Anyone's jeep running diffrent from the 10% ethanol gas?
I haven't really noticed any effect on my starting but I have seen it in all my vehicles in the economy. I'd dare to say I've lost 1-2 maybe more mpg with the 10% blend.

Wow, my jeep has been taking awhile to start, a few seconds. Didn't think about that tho.

I don't know about that but my wallet is still making that choking strangled sound.

+1 with the wallet but i am getting aggrivated at the sound of unwillingness to start that my jeep makes. especially when it runs great once it's going. i dunno i guess i'll take a look at my plugs and see how they look. Also does anyone know where other than the dealer to find a filter for these things advance and autozone don't carry them and i don't want to pay $100.
thanks for the replies |

Filter is located in fuel tank, part of fuel pump assembly. Dale

Re: Anyone's jeep running diffrent from the 10% ethanol gas?
We have been running 10% ethanol off and on for almost 10 years in our '97 GCL(V-8). Probably 75% of the time is ethanol. Sometimes for 6 months straight each winter when we lived in Colorado. No problems with starting, but I am sure the gas mileage is 5% less than with straight unleaded. Truck has 84K miles on it right now.
I have ran it 80,000 miles in an 02 Yukon XL. I am running it in Sonny Boy's 94 Cherokee with no problems and it has 145,600 miles on it although we have only put on about the last 2k of that. I am surprised that people are having trouble...15 seconds is a long time to crank an engine and that will probably wear something out besides patience. On a side note: Don't run the new E 85 Ethanol unless the engine is made for it as it burns a lot hotter and yes gives more power and way less gas mileage. I have had 2 friends who tried it in their late model vehicles without the right engine and their check engine lights came on within 20 miles. Not sure what damage. Good Luck Mike |

Re: Anyone's jeep running diffrent from the 10% ethanol gas?
Here in Australia our E10 is 95 octane, but then I think our octane rating is differn't than the states, anyhow my 97 JGC runs bloody good on E10 a lot smoother and better accelleration, no change in economy still around 21 MPG, though my Subaru Ute is fantastic on E10 more power and I actually get better economy 30 MPG. I use E10 because it's cheaper than Unleaded over here in Queensland paying A$1.28 per Lt.
