newbe my 86 accord the tail lights wont turn off any ........

Help on an old Accord
Ok, I would appreciate any help I can get. I hve a 1986 Honda Accord LXi . I have a problem with the back tail lights, they constantly stay on. Even when the car is off, as soon as you hook the battery to it, they come on and stay on. It is all the lights in the back and the brake light thing in the back window also. I am just wondering if there could be any certain thing wrong with it, or if it might just be a short somewhere. this just happened out of the blue the car has been great otherwise thanks

check the brake wire under the dash by the pedal. if you have access to a test light or multimeter just check to see if it is constantly on even when the pedal is not depressed. if it is, then you have a short somewhere. check the fuses, try and follow the wire. if all else fails, you could always put a switch on the wire and switch it on and off when you and in and out of the car. but that would be a pain in the a**. hope you figure it out.

Thanks all ! it was a tiny little nipple that attaches to the very top of the brake pedal. it pushes on a switch when the pedal is in its normal position.

I bought a PAD STOPPER. (yes i think thats what its called)
It costs ~ $3 and the Honda Part#: 46505-SA5-000.
