Question help troubleshooting with my 2000 s-type... misfiring?

I have fixed my cars after all this time. The problems was the ignition coils all eight of them need to be changed. In my specific situation i also had to replace my catalytic converter(s) because according to the technician its that or the O2 sensor thats giving the engine light.

I am having some problems with my car. Its a 2000 stype with 49,000 miles. If someone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. Recently my S-type started to spudder with a little shimmy. When i'm idling at a light for instant, i would feel the car starting to shake slightly. If I put my hand over the exhaust, while idling ofcourse, theres some pressure coming out. It appears to start getting worst. Almost sounds like something is misfiring of some sort. Other than that I love my car. If anyone have any idea what that could be please let me know. Thanks

Was this issue resolved and how? I am having the same problem with my 2000 S-Type 4.0

well i took my car in for testing and they found oil in the some spark plugs. According to the tech the car have two plugs thats misfiring. After replacing all the spark plugs and gaskets he concluded that cylinder number 3 has 60lbs of compression. He recommended i get rid of the car and save the money on repairs. Does anyone have any ideas or opinions about this situation?

low compression....yeah it could be costly to fix. its kind of up to you. if you have money and want to keep the car then fix it, if you are ready for something else then get rid of it.

yeah i love my car and i really dont want to get another one. How much you think fixing the low compression problem would cost me? What car is out there that will compare with the jag as far as comfort and style. I was thinking about the cadillac CTS. What you guys think?

I have a 2000 4.0ltr with ONE of the same issues.
Two coils failed and were replaced for $ 480.00.
Two weeks later the car starts 'missing' again.
I take it back and this time OTHER coils have failed.
Turns out that oil had leaked on the coils and the remaining
6 needed to be replaced as well as the gaskets leaking oil.
That was $1280.00. Total for the coils and gasket, $1760.00!
This week the "Transmission Fault" light is on !

Well i have heard that there is several ways to prolong the expensive trip to the repair shop. I got a quote for close to $3,000 to fix the compression issue. The get by would be to replace the plugs with a more expensive plug that burns faster and heavier oil. I havent done it yet because i'm thinking if i should put the money in the car and have something else go wrong or should i go ahead and try to get a more reliable car with a warranty. It hurts to know that my car only have 50k miles on it and this should not have happened. I guess next time i'm going to get a neon. What makes the Cylinder go out?

I have never seen an S-Type come in with all of your symptoms and having to repair a "low compression" issue. The problem is leaking cam cover gaskets, oil in the spark plug bore, all 8 ignition coils.

Low compression?? Who diagnosed your car? Sounds like a independent.

Please get back to me on this.

Yes it was an independent that looked at my car but the dealer verify that low compression was the problem. Just cost too must for the dealer to try and fix it. I concluded the low compression was causing the car to respond the way it is. The car is currently in the garage and it appears to get worse when driven. Spoke with other mechanics and the only solution was to rebuild the engine or take it to the machine shop and get that cylinder fix. There were oil in the sparks previously.

You are probably a victim of the dreaded nikasil cylinder wash. That's why the mechanic told you to save your money and just dump the car. Late 90's and early 2000 Jags are problematic with issues relating to the chain tension devices, coils, window and seat motors, transmissions, leaks from everywhere, lower ball joints just to name a few. If you ever buy this type of car again, be sure to get a dealers' extended warranty. You gotta do it before the current warranty expires and must submit and pay for a prebuy inspection. Stay away from the off the wall warranties that are just not recognized by various shops. These types of cars are freakin' expensive man and will run you broke in no time flat and without any questions. They're like young, beautiful and loose girls that know they can get anything they want, anytime they want it. Stay away from '02 down Jags. And unless you're prepared to pay through every orifice and pore in your body, stay away from Jags period. From the mind and owner, of an '04 S-Type R.
