1986 L7 A/C portability

I am new to the forums and considering breathing life into my 1986 L7. I have located a 'seemingly' complete ac system for the 7-series... however it is flagged as a 82-83 model year - the paperwork for the system reads as matching 1977-1984... can anyone tell me if the system would be compatible with the '86 model year? I would also welcome any info and or notions on bringing this vehicle back up to par or would I be better off moving on to another vehicle.

Before the L7 came to me earlier this year it was touring the wholesale auction circuit for a while... it came to me in state of dire TLC, but at the time the price was rite. To date I put nearly 2k into the L7, control/idler arms, general road worthy maintenance as well as a new cat. Up next seems to be a toss between the brakes and transmission.

thanks for the notions and words of advise, its been extremely helpful and a great source of information.

Re: 1986 L7 A/C portability

Hi, I can tell you that there is no diference between the 1986 L7 A/C system and older 731i 0r 735i models, I had a 1983 731i, now I have a 1986 L7 and the A/C units are the same, even the controlls are the same, good luck.
Gus.

Check out this website:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

Put in the last seven digits of your VIN and you'll be able to see the AC compressor that came with your car. If you have THE ENTIRE system, especially the AC compressor mounting bracket, you could convert your e23 over to whatever e23 AC compressor you have found.
