I would be it's the main ground to the engine/tranny.

Re: 1991 escort 1.9 wont start
Your starter is probably either bad or stuck.
When you try to turn it over, try the good ol' start with headlight turned on.... see if you really have enough power. If maybe the starter is stuck, put the car in gear and roll it a couple feet then try again. The starter comes off pretty easily... you can take it off and bench test it. |

Yes it could be the starter, tap on it with a hammer. If it is sticking that will usually free it up. Have you checked for spark? could be the ignition module as well.

Re: 1991 escort 1.9 wont start
Clutch Safety Switch is what I'd check first. The fuel cut-off light is supposed to come on in the start position. That's the only way you know if it works.

No... you wouldn'[t even get the click if it was the clutch switch... power is getting to the starter, it just isn't turning. It's either stuck or not enough juice in the battery.

Re: 1991 escort 1.9 wont start
My mistake. Reread your post where it said you are getting a click sound. I'll bet your battery is bad. If a battery is really messed up a jump start won't even help.
