99 beetle shuts off and wont run

The car start when cold and after it runs a little but it shuts off and wont start. Motor cranks and no start? If it cools down 15-30 min it will start again. The engine light and batt. light are on when you crank it and the code on my gynesis machine is 16706 Ing/Dist Eng speed Inoperitive ckt no signal. What is this? I replace the coil/module and no luck. Help me

Sounds like the crank angle sensor (CAS). They work when cold but fail when warm or hot. Good Luck.
