Hello Guys!!!
I am new to this forum, actually just joined today and I really need some advice. I own a 2001 Grand Am Se and 3 days ago I noticed that after I parked coolant was running out of the little hose attached to the surge tank. I am 100% positive that I did not overfill the tank. I topped up the tank and by the time I drove it a good distance and parked I noticed coolant coming out of the same hose. Just yesterday I had to pull off the highway because I noticed my temperature going up rapidly. Turned off engine and sat for a while, topped up on coolant again and slowly drove home. I am wondering what the problem could be? I need your wisdom here guys. I noticed that my cooling fan never came on either. Help a Grand Am car lover out please!!!! |

Re: 2001 Grand Am Se coolant problems
welcome to AF Wolve®ine!
So is this SE a 4 or 6 cylinder? If you over fill the coolant, it will usually blow some out the over flow. But if you over heating, how hot is it getting? The fans come on at 220-230 degrees or when the AC is on. Hav you checked the oil for coolant? The V6's are prone to blow low intake gaskets and leak the coolant in the oil and or out the exhaust. If thiers coolant in the oil, I''d STOP driving it ASAP! Coolant in the oil will ruin your engine quick.

The car is a V6 and there is no coolant in the oil. When I turn on the A/C, I do not get any cold air. Any suggestions?

Re: 2001 Grand Am Se coolant problems
Quote:
IF the AC compressor relay/fuse could be blown(under the hood fuse box). Might be a fuse for the AC in the Cabin Fuse Box. If they are all right, then I'd say you hav low refrigerant, or a leaking system ![]() Think they sell the a fill kit at most parts stores, if you get one make sure you get one with lubricant , and most hav seal conditioners added too.

Re: 2001 Grand Am Se coolant problems
Hi guys,
Just to update you on my situation. I took my car to the dealership and found out I had a leak in my waterpump and a leaky head gasket. Cost of repairs $20:00 + $55:00 for inspection. Total $75. Thanks so much for all your help guys. |
