95 Cutlass Supreme 3.1 Dead Won't Start

Ok,

so my car died on my the other day. I'm just driving along and boom, it's dead, no nothing.

I've been messing with it all weekend and can't figure it out.

Here is what I've done.

Turn the key on and the fuel pump runs for a second. Anytime you bump the ignition it will run for another second or two.

I have fuel on the schrader valve at the end of the fuel rail. I turn the key on, push in the valve and it shoots about 5 inches out of the valve for half a second then quits. It won't do anything again until you turn the motor over or turn the key off and on.

It has spark. A new electronic module and coil packs have been installed.

We tried switching out the ECU and that didn't work.

If you spray ether in the breather and keep spraying it, it will run as long as you're giving it ether. As soon as you stop, it dies.

So this leads me to thinking it's a fuel problem.

The guys at Autozone tried to sell me a fuel pressure gauge for $40. They said that I need like 40-50psi to make the injectors open and if my fuel pump is weak then that's what my problem is?

I really don't want to spend $90 on a new pump and that not be the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to check?

I'm trying to sell it so I can use the money as a down payment on a house at the end of this month, so time is off the essense. I really appreciate any help I can get at this point.

Hey go back to the basics, if you got fuel and you got fire (spark) the car should start. It sounds like you've got some bad injectors. The only way to test that would be to pull the plenum off check the resistance in your fuel injectors. YOu do this by pulling ea plug wire off the injector and with a
multi-meter check the ohms on ea one.Should be in range of 11.8 to 13.2 on the high factory specs If they're anything less than 10 they're toast. All it takes is one bad injector to shut the quad driver down in the computer. good luck and God bless you!

Pressure at the rail is important. It to if not right will cause major problems. My 94 did the same thing and it was the fuel pump.I post under leeshannon.Read 94 Cutlass Cierra Fuel Problems,It may give you some insight on it.Good luck...Marshall
