98 S10 2.2 runs hot with AC on

Hi, My 98 S10 2.2 automatic with 200K runs hot with the AC on. I have had the clutch fan replaced and a new tstat put in. Without the AC on, in hot weather it does creep up slightly. If I am moving fast it is not as bad as when I am stuck in traffic. I guess my question is this. Should I try to flush the radiator first? Or should I just replace the radiator. Or is it possible it could be something else. I would hate to go through the process of radiator replacement and have it not be that. And how difficult is it to do? Sure looks tight in there. Thanks Bob

Try flushing the rad with a prestone kit, plus even more important you probably have a lot of dirt built up between the 2 rads. The only way to clean it is to basicly take the rad out (although you might be able to tilt it enough) and to spray then both clean one at a time.

Don't be suprised if you need to use some de-greaser and a presure washer will make the job easier.

Thanks, I will give that a try. I am a bit afraid of hitting it with a pressure washer but I am sure after so many miles there is crud in there.

Then use the degreaser and a garden hose

if you have never replaced the coolant, now would be a great time. you dont necessarily have to do a flush due to the high mileage/ potential for leaks, but a drain and fill would probably work wonders. coolant has a life expectancy just like everything else, and it breaks down over time. when i did mine i also replaced the t-stat and the coolant temperature senser- like 10 bucks for the sensor.
