Re: 2000 montana radio

If you end up needing a radio, Ebay has quite a selection....no ideas on the possible cause - does anything work? Do the background lights work? You might just have a bad on-off switch, or something more drastic. You could try pulling the on/off knob off and squirting some TV tuner cleaner in there. Does the "eject" work on the CD? You should be able to eject a CD even with the radio off, so if you don't hear "whirring", then you're not getting any power at all.....I'd definitley make sure you're getting power to the harness that plugs into the radio.

Assuming you can get to it...on my 2003 Montanavision, I've yet to figure out how to remove the lower console, so I can't help you there....Sorry, Glen

Re: 2000 montana radio

No juice. what so ever. not even any back light when the headlight are on. and the CD will nto eject. So it is definitly not getting any power...

My biggest fear with Ebay is mostof these radios has thefltloc....Id hate to buy a radio that has the theftlock feature messed up. IE buying a hot radio....

Id love to get the montana vision..., but I ened up with a 100 dollar walmart special dvd for the kid....

It look s like I'll have to remove the entire lower dash just to get access to the radio to see if I have any loose cables...

I have found that the HARD PART of getting the dash apart is finding the 2 hidden screws behind the lower center console.

I tried to explain it here, but probably didn't do the best job of it.

Anyway, once those screws are removed, the front trim that gives you access to the radio comes off easier.

Take Care,

Re: 2000 montana radio

Greg,

Are the pictures you posted for a standard console or a console with the DVD player in it? I've looked and looked, and I can't seem to find any hidden screws. Seems like I need to get the cup holder out first....I'll look again to see if I can find them...Thanks

Marc,

I've had good luck on Ebay, but you're right, the theftloc might be a concern. However, if you buy from a reputable salvage yard, you might be okay. Do you have the steering wheel controls? If not, you might be better off buying an aftermarket radio.

I had a 90 Grand Prix that had a cassette unit go bad, and the dealer sent it to Delco for an estimate, as long as I took it out and brought it to the dealer. They only charged me $25 for a repair estimate, and it went towards the repair. But again, I'd first check the plug at the radio for power.....good luck....Glen

Glen,

That IS the standard console. If you look carefully at the interior pictures here, you will see that there is a little pull-out drawer (click the picture for a larger image). I think its designed for holding cassette tapes or CDs, but I use it for spare change

I seem to remember that you will have to pull the cup holder to the "full out" position to get to the screws. In order to see them, you have to get the lower console pushed out and then stick your head under there. They are above the cup holder (screwed in from the bottom going UP).

A bright flashlight and a mirror might help too.

Take Care,

Re: 2000 montana radio

The 00 montana console is a bit different. there are two screws one behind the cig lighter door and the other behind the ashtray door. There are no cup holders

Well I got the radio out I have power at the plug, so much for something simple....There are no internal fuses in the radio. I took it apart but i was still unable to remove the Barbie music CD(don't ask) I did not want to totaly destroy the CD player. Well I really DID WANT to destroy it, but I figure I might be able to send it off to get it repaired or buy a new one on ebay or in a junk yard.

I'm pissed about the DA&% theftloc. so even if I do all of the work myself, I still have to take it to a dealer and get them to plug it into the computer while they plug into my wallet.....Like there has been a run of thefts on Delco radios.....

Do a little "calling around" - any GM place should be able to do it. There may even be some "car stereo" shops that could do it.

It doesn't hurt to ask.
