Whats this on my speakers?

I have a 00 taurus and i was takin the speakers out just to have a look and i noticed this thingy on them.



What is it?

It's a capacitor. It filters out certain frequencies, typically those too low for the speaker to reproduce without doing damage to them over long term listening conditions. Typically from about 400 Hz and below. Given all that...did you pull the speaker out of a system equipped with the MACH or JBL set up? If it was the MACH set up, then typicaly you cannot just swap the factories for after market. Drastic resistance difference from the factory (about 2 ohms or lower) to aftermarket (which is 4 ohms).
