Multiple Questions

1. On average how much is an automatic trans. for a 5sfe 2.2 from a junkyarf.
2.After tran is fixed considering a fuel injector cleaning at All Tune & Lube, does it make a big difference in performance.
3. or could i use sea foam and get the same results for less. What is sea foam and what do you do to use it.

Keep in mind I'm only guessing just like you but, a tranny should go for $500-1K at a junkyard. I've never had a need to get injectors cleaned but, I know shops like to push it whether you need it or not. It's a big money maker for them. If you don't have an obvious acceleration or idling problem I wouldn't have it done. Seafoam is made by a company that makes several types of automotive cleaners. The one type I see most talking about is the throttle body cleaner. It appears it works great. Do a search on this and the Dodge Caravan forum. Plenty talk about it.

That is a perfect point. I hate to see them too.

Now about a Seafoam. I have only heard good replies about it. I cleaned my Subaru with it for pinning problems. Engine was well maintanined but has always had pinning issues since its birth. It worked only for one fill up. Next gas tank I got pinning again. It could have been a bad gas but unfortunately I never had chandce to verify it.

1. It may not be a good idea to get a junkyard trans, it might have to be rebuilt, and theres no way for you to tell. They sell used Japanese ones, at least you know these would work but how well? Depends on the guaranty.

2. I think you can do almost as good a job as these "fuel inj clean" process, just by cleaning inside your Throttle body with can cleaner, and dumping some techroline (or sea foam?) in the gas tank on an almost empty tank.

3. I cant say anything about sea foam cause ive never used it. People say they disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster and dump it in the hose. You can get it from Napa or napaonline.com

1) I've used Seafoam both in the gas tank and by feeding it through the brake booster line. It seemed to make a noticable difference in the idle quality (much smoother) but had no effect on mileage. If you decide to feed it through the booster line just trickle it in slow so the engine will stay running for about 1/3 of a cans worth, then pour in another 1/3 of a can all at once; this will kill the engine (which is what you want), let it sit 10-15 minutes, reconnect the brake booster line and restart the engine (it will be difficult to start, but it will start) you will probably have to give it some throttle for it to run. At first it will run rough and smoke like you will not believe then it will smooth out, pour the rest of the Seafom into the gas tank and take the car out for a drive. I think you will notice a difference.
2) I bought a JDM transmission for my 91 (3sfe). 17k miles so far and still going.
