Cool 92 s10 blazer egr cleaning

A friends sister has a 92 blazer with possibly a dirty egr valve. I need to know how to clean it without damaging the unit. What, if any chemicals are safe or is it a 'brush/scrub' it off method. Can you force (push gently till it moves up) the pintle and the seat up when on the bench to clean the valve seat area or is that needed.

Also, apparently some models have 'tubes' what do you use to clean them. We have compressed air (125lbs) an a nosel for it.

We plan on putting the screened gasket under it when putting it back on.

The nearest I have gotten to the vehicle was a ride in it. Sure acts like an open/stuck egr as it idles roughly and will die if not given slight gas pedal. Then again, might be a bad hose or other gasket.

She has had it to two 'recommended' shops with no resolve.

Someone posted the tomco tech tip 30 which I have printed out.

Also thanks to whoever suggested the WD40 leak finder method, sounds like that will work and wd40 isn't quite as explosive as my old...30 years ago...unlit 1/2 on propane torch method!! Yes, some one recommended that also!!!

Hopefully, Friday or Saturday, I can get a hands on on it. Early I hope as it will be a cool 110F that day, and NO SHADE to work in.

believe it or not, this is for a manual. tap the plunger with a hammer until smooth movement. ive also used small screwdrivers and picks to scrap the inside out abit. i was told not to us any solvents or lubes to clean it or id destroy the fiber. well with alittle elbow and good lighting its not bad.
i thought about putting a screen on mine too, until BLAZERLT said not to because all the carbon and stuff needs to come out rather than be stuck in there causing worst problems than the egr.

Angry Re: 92 s10 blazer egr cleaning

Egr checked out okay, found out symptoms are a little 'different.' It ONLY seems to do this when 'cold' during 'hot' weather???? According to her. I rode home in it today and it idled fine after a couple blocks or so.

Thinking maybe a bad temp sensor..one that doesn't go high resistance and tells the system it is a warm/hot engine when it isn't.

So closing this thread and opening a new one, if no one objects.
