I have been debating if I need to sell my Explorer for a while now.
I have a 99 XLT 4X4... At around 60K, the tranny had a serious issue and had to be rebuilt. The price tag to that was 3,500 dollars. Fortunately it was under warranty and I only had to pay 25 dollars. It made me think of what would happen if the tranny ever went out again and was not under warranty. I am now facing 100K on the Explorer. I looked thru this site and there seems to be quite a few Explorer tranny issues. If I am only 20K away from another rebuild, then perhaps it is time to sell. How common is it to have a tranny problem on these vehicles? Is it a bad design or is there something else causing the trouble? I suppose what I am really wondering is if the trouble that I had before was a-typical for the Explorer and the rebuild corrected the issue.....OR...if the rebuild, because of the design, will tyically last no longer than the original tranny lasted. |
