Re: 91 talon overheating dont know y
When you turn on your heater do you get a heavy smell of antifreeze? If so then consider the heater core, if this gets clogged then fluid can't circulate causing an over heating problem, this happened in my spirit last winter.

Re: 91 talon overheating dont know y
Have you filled it up with antifreeze? You're running a 50/50 mix right? Start it up and let it run while you fill it up.

Could be a blown head gasket. Rev it and have a friend watch the exhaust. If theres any white smoke then its the hg.

Re: 91 talon overheating dont know y
Thor, unless he see's a drop in his coolant level, I don't think a HG would cause overheating. And if the coolant did drop, the fill light would come on.
Eagletalon91, are you seeing any drop in coolant? EDIT: Aren't you the guy that's trying to sell your car for $3000?!?!? AND it doesn't run right?!? WTF? |

Re: 91 talon overheating dont know y
Someone needs to write an overheating thread and sticky that bitch!
Things to check: 1. Radiator cap;it's cheap, and causes more problems than you can imagine. 2. Thermostat; also cheap 3. Flush, clean, and pressure test radiator and hoses (make sure they are on properly and not bent shut, or have holes). Also watch while the car is running to make sure there isn't a hose collapsing in on it's self. 4. Listen for knock; detonation causes overheating (cheap gas, improper timing, etc.). 5. Water pump. 6. Fans coming on at proper temp. 7.. Finally, Thor's favorite....blown HG. Look for drop in coolant level, white smoke, water in oil, and excessive pressure on the hoses. I think that about covers it.....3 grand for an overheating car? :

Re: 91 talon overheating dont know y
you might have air in the coolign system, when you run your car, run it with the heater on, then after you turn it off and cooled down, take of the radiator cap and squeeze the rubber pipe which goes between the radiator and the thermostat housign to let air bubbles out, you can do vise versa too.
