(hypothetical) NA 240

Ok after reading everyones opinions and doing a small amount of searching, I think this is what I'm going to do to my imaginary 240.

Start with the basics. I/H/E. After that I think I'll get the motor rebuilt and while its open get a mild port, polish, matching job and bump up the compression by .5 or maybe 1. Then get rid of that fan that I've heard such horrible things about in favor of an electric fan. There was something else I was thinking of but I can't remember right now...anyhow I'll probably stick with a heavy duty stage 1 or MAYBE stage 2 clutch, its a possibility that i would get my stock flywheel lightened very slightly and after I did all of that(not necessarily in the order I posted it) I think I would be happy. Then in between all the engine mods will be suspension and a very small amount of looks. So with that being said...any opinions? Maybe someone could give me a good order to do all that in er something? Or recommend parts to use etc... or......whatever

Here are your NA parts you need...

Intake
Headers
Exhaust
ECU
Cams
Port Polish
Rebuild/Blueprint the engine
Forged Pistons and Rods for higher compression (no more than 11.5:1)

Other good things to have...

LSD
Swaybars
Strutbars
Coilovers or Springs & Struts/Shox
Clutch
Flywheel
Any other bars that will increase the rigidity of your car...(ie Do Luck X Bar or Roll cages)
A nice set of tires w/some lightweight wheels
And maybe getting your car on a diet...(ie removing the trunk lining, spare, tools, rear seat, more lining, the seats for some lighter racing seats...etc)

Have fun

Cams! thats the thing I thought of but couldn't remember. And an ECU upgrade...yes...that will do nicely. And as for the wheels...I used GT3 to do some wheel comparisons and some volk racing 17s in white on a white 240 look reeeeaaaally nice. I can't remember the name...their the six spokes that look kind of like a hand with all the fingers bent ya know what i mean...i'll go find a picture and a name. But yeah keep the suggestions coming

Which year are you looking at pal? S13?

The Volk Racing Challenges also look great on the S13, but of course, the TE-37s are classy.

I think the TE37's look really good in bronze on a dark blue car. Like the color of Signal Auto's Sileighty, but I think the Sileighty had Volk SE37's on it.

SR20DET's can net you 205HP, 220HP, 250HP depending upon which year you choose. And that's stock w/stock boost settings. Engines range anywhere from 1300 to 6500 depending again upon year.

NA will net you about 210-220 at the flywheel which translates into about 175-180RWHP. So if you want the most HP...then go turbo...if you dont want to go turbo...then of course NA is your only choice since no successful superchargers have been developed yet. NOS is the other alternative...but I dont like NOS.

Cost of NA mods...hmm...

Intake ~200
Headers ~330
Exhaust ~550
ECU ~600
Cams ~500
Port Polish ~1000 (took a guess)
Rebuild Engine/Blueprint ~1000-1500 (again educated guess)
Forged Pistons ~900-1100
Underdrive Pulley ~110 (forgot this the first time around)
Flywheel ~420
Clutch ~310
Swaybars ~270
Strutbars ~200-300 (depends on what brand you go w/)
LSD ~275 (for OEM J30 LSD's used from junkyard)
Tires ~ vary
Wheels ~ vary

You add them up...lol.

You only need new brakes if you want to stop...lol...no but really yeah you can either get 300ZX brakes, Skyline brakes, JDM S14 4 piston brakes (same as 300ZX ones), or even Q45 brakes (as seen in the SCC Project 240SX). And if money is no object then you have the aftermarket brake kits like Stillen, Baer, Wilwood, and my favorite Brembo.

Injectors and fuel pump...hmm... yes I could see a need for these only if you went into the engine itself and changed things like compression...but w/just rebuilt engine and/port polishes...I dont think they are that important...remember the JWT ECU dumps in more fuel for you on demand...I should know...my fuel economy went down w/the ECU since if you floor it...it dumps it (the fuel that is).

And like I said...you could also make your car go on the Jenny Craig diet and lose some excess stuff you dont need...and depending upon the year of your car...lose up to about 100-130 lbs of excess things you dont need from your car...you can also go further by replacing things you do need w/lighter weight materials...ie carbon fiber, titanium and other fun lightweight materials.

Yoohoo!

And not only that, but port polishes (i.e. viscous fluid pump, clover-leaf combustion chamber mod) actually better your fuel economy; average factory engines consume about 80% of its given fuel, and a stage 4 head/valve job can increase your fuel economy up to 95% consumption efficiency (meaning burning more of the same amount of given fuel) while upping hp anywhere from 20-40.

Higher gpm fuel pumps and injectors are really only necessary once you've added more air, and more ignition (i.e. nitrous oxide, or forced induction).
